Tidy a CSV export of transactions in your browser, without uploading it
Choose a CSV export from a payment service, a marketplace or a bank. This page cleans it in your browser, shows the first 20 cleaned rows and lists every line it left out, with the reason. A licence key from Gumroad enables the download of the full cleaned file.
Clean a CSV export
The cleaner looks for a header row, a date column and an amount column, and writes eight fixed columns: date, description, amount, currency, fee, net, reference and source. If it cannot find those columns in your file, it says so and outputs nothing.
Your file is read in your browser and is never uploaded, stored or logged. It is held in the memory of this tab only, and closing or reloading the page discards it. Operator: Augeo. See the privacy notice.
Exports do not share one layout, and this page makes no promise about yours: the free preview shows what it does to your file.
The cleaning logic is checked by an automated test script that runs the engine file of this site over six synthetic sample files and a set of checks of the parsing rules; it ran in a sandbox before this site was published and finished with no failed check. The script does not open this page in a browser, does not test the licence key step, and nothing was tested against a real export from any provider. Use the free preview to check your own file.

Download the full cleaned file
- Price: 6 USD, paid once on Gumroad. No subscription. You receive a licence key.
- What the key unlocks: the download of every cleaned row of the file you chose, as one CSV named after your file with -cleaned.csv at the end, instead of the first 20 rows on screen. The report and the way files are read stay the same.
- The key is for one buyer. Runs are not counted and no number of runs is promised. The key is kept in the memory of this page only, so you enter it again after closing or reloading the page.
- Refunds are requested through your Gumroad receipt and follow Gumroad's refund policy.
- Try the free preview first. If the preview cannot read your file, the full download cannot either.

One page per export
The same cleaner is on every page. Each page explains what it changes for one kind of export and how to do the same by hand in a spreadsheet.

Semicolons, decimal commas and DD/MM/YYYY dates converted to commas, decimal points and year-month-day dates without amounts changing value.

Semicolons between columns replaced by commas, with decimal commas turned into points so the two do not collide.

1.234,56 written as 1234.56, with the decimal separator taken from the amounts of the file.

The order of day and month taken from the file when a date settles it, and asked when none does.
- Line breaks inside quoted fields of a CSV
A quoted field that runs over several lines read as one value, and written as one line per transaction.

Gross as the amount, the fee with its sign, and net as written in the file or as amount plus fee.

What the page says when it cannot find a date column and an amount column, and the known limits.

What the cleaned file looks like
Whatever the input, the output has the same eight columns in the same order, comma-delimited, with dates as year-month-day and amounts as plain decimals with a point.
| Column | What it holds | Example |
|---|---|---|
| date | The transaction date as YYYY-MM-DD | 2024-03-05 |
| description | The payee, title or description from the export | Etsy order - Sample Buyer One |
| amount | A signed decimal; negative means money out | -1500.00 |
| currency | The currency code from the export; amounts are never converted | EUR |
| fee | The fee as a negative number where the export has one; empty otherwise | -1.16 |
| net | Amount after the fee | 29.32 |
| reference | The transaction ID, order number or bank reference, where the export has one | TR-0001 |
| source | Which column mapping the cleaner applied to the file | bank |
How it treats your rows
- Lines above the header row and closing lines with no date are dropped and listed with their line numbers.
- Exact repeated rows are dropped and listed with their line numbers. Two identical rows can be two real transactions, so look at that list.
- Every row that cannot be read is left out of the output and listed with its line number and the reason.
- When no date in the file settles whether 03/04/2024 is 3 April or 4 March, the page stops and asks you.
- The report ends with a count check for your file: rows in equals rows out plus the rows dropped and the rows not parsed.
Known limits
- Text files only: comma, semicolon or tab delimited. Excel files, PDF statements and OFX or QIF files are not read.
- Exports do not share one layout. A file whose header names the cleaner does not recognise is not read, and the page says so.
- Month names are recognised in English only.
- Amounts are never converted between currencies.
- The output has the eight columns above and no others. Extra columns in your export are not carried over.
- The whole file is held in your browser's memory, so very large exports are limited by the memory of your computer.
- The licence check needs an internet connection. The cleaning itself makes no network request.
